Ruptures as Interpreted by Ballet Des Moines, 2017

Performed by the Ballet Des Moines Professional Company
Choreographed by Serkan Usta, Ballet Des Moines Artistic Director
Original scores by Lindsay Keast
Videography by Ryan Morrison

Ballet Des Moines and the Des Moines Art Center created a moving collaboration of dance and visual art inspired by the Art Center's 2017 installation Ruptures. The works that comprise the exhibition are rife with emotion and physicality, qualities fundamental to dance. Four vignettes, choreographed by Serkan Usta, draw inspiration from work in the show, “showing what one thinks and feels without words.”

Live performances took place in the gallery on June 23, 2017 followed by a dialogue with the choreographer, dancers, and composer.

KEEPERS: Lamp, 2016

Artistic direction by Christopher Squier
Choreography by Syd Devine
Original score by Lindsay Keast
Costume design by Michelle Devine

Presented as part of Embark Gallery’s show Enact at the 2016 SF International Arts Festival, Keepers borrows the historical architecture of the Alcatraz Lighthouse as a stage for sculpture, video animation, and choreography. Through these visual elements, an apocalyptic saga unfolds, chronicling the end of Alcatraz. The keeper is left behind, tending to the lighthouse as it withstands wind and weather before it collapses into a state of decay and eventually crumbles into the waves.

Three performances May 20-22, 2016 at The Firehouse at Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture at the SF International Arts Festival in San Francisco, CA
